Safety Harbor

Safety Harbor is a small (4.9 square miles) quaint town in the otherwise highly populated Pinellas County located on the west shore of Upper Tampa Bay, Florida. Safety Harbor is home to approximately 17,884 people. Formerly known as “Worth’s Harbor”, the area adopted the name “Safety Harbor” in the early 18th century after being referred to as “Safe Harbor” from the relief of the threat of pirates in its portion of the bay. Some of the earliest inhabitants of the area were the Tocobaga people who were known to bury their dead in communal mounds, one of which can still be seen in Safety Harbor’s Philippe Park. Safety Harbor is also home to the famous U.S Historical Landmark and Florida Heritage Landmark, Espiritu Santo Springs (“Springs of the Holy Spirit”). The springs received their name in 1539 when Spanish Hernando de Soto searching for the “Fountain of Youth” arrived in the area.

Safety Harbor Resort and Spa

In 1925, the prominent “Safety Harbor Resort and Spa” was built over the springs. Though small in size and relaxing in atmosphere, there is no shortage of things to do in Safety Harbor; dotted with every manner of local business and recreational activity, the harbor has something for everyone…Parks, fishing piers, boutiques, art galleries, and highly rated restaurants (Greek, Italian, Pub Food, Japanese, etc.). The town also boasts year-round events, most notably the “3rd Friday Music Series” in which Main Street is closed for family-friendly live entertainment, shopping, and dining to benefit local charities.
